An online marketing plan defines your goals, gives you focus, sets your goals and provides an overall view of where you are going and how you are going to get there. Imagine an airline crew taking off without a flight plan or the army going to war without a battle plan or Harvard enrolling students without a curriculum; the results would be disastrous. The same is true in business, if you’re not online you’re not in the competition and  without an online marketing plan the results can be disastrous.

Your online marketing plan does not have to be the best one ever created. It does not have to be complicated or long. All it has to do is help you get from where you are today to where you want to go in the future. If the thought of having to develop an online marketing plan sounds complicated and overwhelming, think about it this way; imagine that you have already reached your business objective. Now ask yourself what you did to reach your objective. The steps you imagined you took to reach your objective now become part of your marketing plan. Without taking those steps you could not have reached your goals.

Your online marketing plan defines the steps you need to take and will guide you along the way to reaching your goals. It must not be vague or too general. Your plan must be specific, with clear goals and objectives. With goals and objectives and a clear plan to help you achieve them you will not only be well on your way to reaching your goals – but exceeding them.
